This rewarding full day Sacred Valley tour is located in the lower area between Pisac and Ollantaytambo and is known as the Sacred Valley or Urubamba Valley, a place of great importance to the Inca culture due to its geography and wonderful climate.

On this incredible day trip you will see a succession of picturesque villages, incredible landscapes, agricultural terraces and great archaeological sites from the time of the Incas as you travel through the Urubamba Valley to the town of Ollantaytambo (which is the focal point of the northern end of the valley and the entrance to Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail).

Itinerary

DAY 1:Day 1: Cusco - Viewpoint of the Sacred Valley - Pisac - Urubamba - Ollantaytambo - Chinchero - Cusco

Our classic Sacred Valley tour starts at 7.30am to avoid the crowds! Our English-speaking guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel. We start the day by travelling by private vehicle from Cusco along the road that winds through the mountains to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

After a 45 minute drive through small colourful villages, we make our first stop at the alpaca farm or wildlife sanctuary of Cochahuasi to see and observe some unique Andean animals. We then continue to one of the famous viewpoints known as El Mirador “Taray”. From there we will be able to see the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River, the source of the world’s longest river, the Amazon, and get a glimpse of Inca history.

The Sacred Valley was one of the main areas where the Incas settled. In this high area of the Andes there is an unusual abundance of fertile plains. You will also see the vast terraces and irrigation channels left behind by the Incas.

Later we head to the ruins of Pisac. Here you will explore, witness and learn about the Inca culture. You will see incredible stone art and impressive agricultural terraces. After exploring, you and your guide will drive back to the lower town of Pisac to stop at a bustling handicraft market. After spending some time wandering around the market looking for bargains, we will rejoin the group to continue driving along the Urubamba River (Wilcamayu River) for about an hour to reach Urubamba, where we will enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch we will continue to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, we will visit the ruins, an important Inca construction site built during the height of the Incas. This is an extraordinary Inca site because you can find the Temple of the Sun, which is aligned with the nearby mountains to track important astronomical events, including the solstices, and rock formations representing the Inca god Wiracocha.

If your classic Sacred Valley tour from Cusco ends in Ollantaytambo/Urubamba or you take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, you will not have the opportunity to visit Chinchero for the traditional weaving demonstration on this tour. Our guide will be happy to take you to the station in time for your train.
If your classic Sacred Valley tour ends in Cusco, on the way back we will visit the village of Chinchero to see the local villagers in their typical dress as in ancient times and to watch a traditional weaving demonstration. We will then return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
