The full day tour to Waqrapukara begins with a 4:30 am pick up from your hotel in Cusco.
Your private transportation will take you on a 2 hour drive through the picturesque villages and valleys of the Peruvian Andes until you reach Cusipata. Upon arrival in Cusipata you will enjoy a delicious breakfast and prepare for the hike.
After breakfast, you will drive the short distance to the trailhead in Santa Lucia, passing through lush green meadows and the beautiful Pomacanchi Lagoon.
At 9:00 am you will follow your guide along the trail for 2 hours until you reach the fortress of Waqrapukara at 4300 m (14,107 ft). The granite construction of the site indicates that Waqrapukara was once a religious shrine. But its mountaintop location and resemblance to an imposing castle undoubtedly indicate that it also served as a fortress. Its famous horn-shaped rock formation can be seen for miles around.
Accompanied by your guide and briefed on the history of the site, you will spend the next hour exploring the ruins and taking souvenir photos. Around noon, you will return to the transportation in Santa Lucia and to the restaurant in Cusipata to enjoy a well-deserved lunch.
Once you are fed and happy, your transportation will take you on a 3 hour ride back to your hotel in Cusco.
