We begin this beautiful day at 7.30am when your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco in our private van. Our route to the Sacred Valley of the Incas takes us to Pisac. We first stop at the Taray viewpoint for a panoramic view of the Urubamba Valley and its traditional farming villages. You will see how little agriculture has changed in the valley in the last five hundred years. Next we will visit the archaeological site of Pisac, where we will see an impressive Inca cemetery with more than two thousand tombs. Here we will be able to admire the carefully designed terraces carved into the mountain, explore the Inca tunnel and the religious area of this important citadel. We will spend about two hours exploring the Inca city. Then we will go to the colourful market of Pisac, where we will spend about 20 minutes. Afterwards we go to Urubamba for lunch.
Finally, we will go to Ollantaytambo, where we will take time to explore the Inca city, which has remained intact since Inca times, and the Inca ruins, with a tour provided by our guide. We will visit the magnificent architecture of the Temple of the Sun, built on the impressive terraces, and learn about the importance of this site to the Incas at the beginning of the Spanish conquest.
We then take the train to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in our hotel.
This is the day you have been waiting for! After an early breakfast at your hotel, take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to see the sunrise. It is an extraordinary place that you will not want to miss. Your guide will take you on a two hour tour. You will see most of the important parts of the citadel. Learn how Machu Picchu is divided into three sectors: agricultural, residential and religious.
When you have had enough of the extraordinary views of Machu Picchu, take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (lunch is not included). Depending on the train’s departure time, there will be time for shopping, sightseeing, or a visit to the museum or hot springs.
The expedition train will take you back to Ollantaytambo, following the spectacular Urubamba River. Near Aguas Calientes, the canyon is narrow and the river has many stretches of white water. You can also see Wiñay Wayna from the train as you look up the steep canyon wall. Upon leaving the train station, your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco in our private vehicle.
