Description

It is a circuit that starts in the city of Cusco through villages such as Ollantaytambo, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa and Hydroelectric by car, and then start a 3 hour walk along an ancient flat path surrounded by vegetation and tropical landscapes to the city of Aguas Calientes so that the next day we can enjoy the visit to the citadel of Machu Picchu.

The Machu Picchu by Car Tour was created in 1999 as an alternative route due to the limitations of the train that leads to Aguas Calientes, by taking this adventure you will contribute to the development of the villages that exist along the route, in addition to enjoying a beautiful panorama full of landscapes and snowy belonging to the Peruvian Andes.

Itinerary

DAY 1:Day 1: Cusco – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

Enjoy the breathtaking scenery on the first day of our Machu Picchu tour by car, with a scenic drive to Hidroelectrica, a delicious local lunch, and a 3 hour hike to Aguas Calientes.

On the first day of the tour, we will depart from the Machu Picchu Reservations Office in Cusco at 6:30 a.m. for a scenic 6-hour drive to Hidroelectrica. On the way we will stop for lunch at Hidroelectrica. After lunch we will continue the 3 hour hike to Aguas Calientes.

Get ready for a 3 hour, 11 km hike on flat terrain to the base village of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will be transferred to your hotel where you can relax and freshen up. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner in town and prepare for an exciting day of exploring Machu Picchu.

DAY 2:Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Hidroeléctrica – Cusco

On the second day of our Machu Picchu tour by car, you can choose to walk or take a bus to the citadel. Enjoy a guided tour and free time to explore.

On the second day of our two day Machu Picchu tour by car, you will have the option of walking or taking a bus to the citadel. If you choose to take the bus, you will need to purchase an entrance ticket in Aguas Calientes for $12. Those who prefer to walk should start their ascent after breakfast at 4:30 a.m. to arrive at the main entrance at 6 a.m.

Regardless of the means of transportation chosen, the meeting point will be at the main entrance of Machu Picchu at 6:00 am. Your guide will take you on a tour of the Inca site where he will tell you the history and anecdotes of this iconic place. After the tour you will have free time to explore the area on your own.

After visiting Machu Picchu, you will begin your journey back to Cusco by starting the hike from the citadel to Hidroelectrica at 10:00 am. The hike takes about 3.5 hours, so you will arrive at Hidroelectrica in time to catch the bus back to Cusco between 14:00 and 14:30.

The trip from Hidroelectrica to Cusco takes about 6 hours, during which time you can relax and reflect on your incredible experience at Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Cusco, you will have completed your unforgettable two-day trip to Machu Picchu by car.
