Cusco – Perú.
An alternative to Rainbow Mountain is Palcoyo Hill. This trek will take you to one of the lesser known but equally impressive destinations in the Cusco region, where you can enjoy breathtaking scenery and experience the majesty of the Peruvian Andes.
The most anticipated destination on this trip is Palcoyo Hill, a place of unparalleled natural beauty. As you delve deeper into this region, you will be greeted by a mountain range of incredible colours that resemble a geological rainbow. This surreal landscape is the result of minerals and sediments deposited over thousands of years.
This tour consists of a walk along well-maintained trails that allow you to explore and admire this natural wonder at close quarters. As you climb, you will feel surrounded by the beauty of the Andes and the tranquillity of nature.
From the top of Palcoyo Hill you will enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding area. You will have the opportunity to take unforgettable photographs of the colourful landscapes and breathe in the pure mountain air.
This full day excursion to the snow-capped mountain of Palcoyo gives you the opportunity to experience the beauty and uniqueness of the Peruvian Andes in a less crowded environment than other tourist attractions. It’s a chance to get in touch with nature and marvel at the magnificent geology of this unique region of Peru.
The tour starts with a hotel pick up between 4.30 and 5.00am and we drive to the village of Cusipata, arriving in about two hours. Once in this small, picturesque village, we’ll have breakfast and free time to use the toilets, buy sports drinks and snacks. Then it’s an hour and a half walk to the starting point of the trek: the community of Palcoyo, at 4,200 metres above sea level.
The adventure begins with a breathtaking view of the cloud forest and some brightly coloured mountains, indicating that we are very close to the Cordillera de Colores. After a short introduction from our guide, we begin the hike. The ascent is easy and takes about 30 minutes. Along the way we will see a wide variety of South American camelids and when we reach the summit we will be able to admire the imposing Ausangate mountain, around 6,380 metres high.
This place is also unique and magical, as nature has capriciously shaped this landscape. During the visit, we will receive an explanation of the site and participate in the offering ceremony to Pachamama. Afterwards we will have free time to take pictures, enjoy and explore the Cordilleras de Colores and the Stone Forest. After enjoying a moment of silence in contact with nature and the Apus (mountain spirits), we will return to the town of Cusipata for lunch. Afterwards we will return to Cusco, where the tour ends around 17:00.
