Description

The tour of Moray and the Maras Salt Mines is unique. Journey into the history and traditions of Cusco and embark on an unforgettable adventure to explore two of Cusco’s most iconic and fascinating sites: the agricultural wonder of Moray and the ancient salt mines of Maras. This enriching tour will allow you to discover the ingenuity of the Inca civilization and the enduring traditions of the region.

Your journey begins at 8:30 am at our main office in Cusco, where you will board a comfortable vehicle for a 1.5 hour drive to your first destination: Moray. There you will marvel at the impressive circular terraces designed by the Incas as a botanical laboratory, which allowed them to acclimatise plants from warmer regions to thrive in the high-altitude Andean climate. Your expert guide will explain the historical and cultural significance of these enigmatic terraces, after which you will have free time to explore the area and take photographs.

Next, you will head to the captivating salt mines of Maras, a centuries-old site that is still used today as a small-scale salt production plant. Wander through the labyrinth of salt pools and let your guide explain the extraction process and the role salt plays in the local economy. Feel the texture of the salt pools and take the opportunity to buy unique souvenirs made from this versatile mineral.

To conclude this remarkable experience, you will return to Cusco in our vehicle, where we will arrive around 3:00 pm. Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to delve into the hidden treasures of Cusco and learn first-hand about the remarkable legacy of the Inca Empire and the living traditions that continue to shape the region today.
